Rare/Antiquarian Bookseller:
We are pleased to advertise a vacancy for an experienced rare/antiquarian bookseller in our bustling Mayfair shop. This is a rare opportunity to play a central role in shaping the expansion of Heywood Hill’s antiquarian department. The focus of our rare/antiquarian department is currently English literature and history, travel, art and architecture and some natural history.
The main duties of the job include: revitalizing Heywood Hill’s antiquarian department; sourcing, cataloguing and displaying stock; providing efficient, knowledgeable and courteous customer care in person, over the telephone and by email; representing the business at trade fairs and elsewhere as and when required.
Candidates should have at least 5 years relevant experience in the rare book trade. Other skills we are looking for: very good knowledge of rare books and their cataloguing (as a specialist or a generalist); some IT proficiency; commercial nous in the sale and purchase of rare books; a positive attitude, confident personality and energetic work ethic; an ability to work with others and to connect with customers; willingness to work flexibly and under pressure; and a genuine interest in the history of the written word.
